For the second time in its history, the Northwest Arkansas Gridiron is calling on a dynamic duo — Bret and Stephanie Schulte, both professors at the University of Arkansas — to emcee the show. The show will be Friday and Saturday evenings, Oct. 4 and 5, at the Arkansas Public Theatre in Rogers.

“With so much going on in the news, it might take two people to handle it,” said one of the show’s writers.

“Being asked to emcee the Gridiron is the most hilarious thing the show has ever done,” Bret Schulte said. “We laughed harder at the invitation than at any skit in years. And at the show we’re usually drunk!”

The only other time the show has had more than one emcee at a time was 2010 when Kyle and Laura Kellams did the honors. This year will be the 29th show presented over a span of 41 years.

Bret Schulte is an associate professor in the U of A School of Journalism and Strategic Media, and Stephanie Ricker Schulte is an associate professor in the Department of Communication, both in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences.

“Game of Groans” is this year’s theme of the annual spoof of the year’s news events, written and performed by local journalists.

Doors open at 6:45 p.m. for general seating. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets go on sale in early September.
